Jessica Martin

Art Classes

Jessica Martin is an abstract painter and sculptor based in Healdsburg.   Her work has been featured in exhibitions nationally and internationally, with local shows at Southern Exposure, San Jose Institute of Contemporary Art, the diRosa Preserve, Sonoma County Museum, New Langton Arts, and the Headlands Center for the Arts.  Alongside her career as an artist, Jessica is also developing a new local art program for kids.

BEGINNING DRAWING

This class introduces concepts of perspective, light and shadow, and use of drawing materials.  The class is designed to take the anxiety out of drawing and gain confidence through developing one's personal skill, style and gesture.

Activities:

-Blind Drawing (portraits and objects)

-Drawing on a flat plane using plexiglass

-"T-drawing" exercises

-Scribble/fill drawing exercises

BEGINNING PAINTING: ACRYLICS

Learn basic techniques for using acrylics for painting and collage. This is a  great class for beginners as well as for artists wanting to learn more about acrylics.

Activities:

-Field trip to local art panel/stretcher-maker John Annesley's shop to learn about different acrylic art products and uses

 

-Playing with varying thickness of acrylic, "watercolor" techniques

-Using mediums as texture agents, glazes, and varnishes

-learning about use and mixing of different colors,

INTRODUCTION TO ENCAUSTICS

This class covers introductory approaches to encaustic painting and collage.  Learn about tools, materials, and safety guidelines.

Activities:

-Review of safety, tools, materials, resources, and a brief history of encaustics

-Discussion of supports and preparation for painting

-Application of wax and fusing onto supports

-Using collage with encaustics
